Foster Chato’s First Birthday

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

This weekend my foster brother, Chato, celebrated his 1st Birthday! This was a big deal for Chato as he’s been sick most of his first year, and because of Bulldog Haven’s help, Chato is doing really well! In fact, he had a follow-up visit with his dogter yesterday, and she was very pleased with his progress!

We celebrated Chato’s day by going for a long walk on the Edmonds waterfront, and then we had a small party for Chato. Because Chato is on a very strict diet he couldn’t have special birthday treats, so I ate his Barcachino with kibble sprinkles. Thank you, Chato!

Chato wants to thank everyone who helped make his day so special.

Foster Chato

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

Today I took my foster brother Chato, on our first walk together. He was a very good leader, and everyone wanted to stop and say hello to us! I’m not so sure I like how he’s snuggling up to Mr. Dave in the car though! Good thing me and The Lady took our own car or I’m sure I would’ve been jealous about that. He is cute though.

Barkley’s Throne

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

The Lady was gifted a new dog sofa and thought she’d use it for the foster dogs. I thought it looked like the perfect size for me, so last night I claimed it as my own. Lady was surprised because I like to destroy dog beds, so she kept a close eye on me to make sure I behaved. I slept in it for about two hours, and then I stretched and fell out of bed! Lady laughed at me and took pictures, she’s so rude! I’m back on it today, sound asleep, but Lady keeps taking pictures of me and sending them to Mr. Dave. I heard them laughing about it too.

I love my new sofa!

Our Foster Lili

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

Sorry that it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me!! I’ve been busy hosting another BHNW foster, so I haven’t had time to goof off on Facebook.

This is my fur friend Lili. Lili came to stay with us for a month while The Lady helped find her a forever home. Saturday, Lili went to her new home, and I’m back to being Mr. Dave and The Lady’s one and only

Good luck Lili! I know The Lady made sure to find you the perfect forever home! I hope you’re as lucky as I was! Lili was a sweet petite little English Bulldog who was 5-years old when she came to us. She was adopted by an amazing lady who we know will spoil her!

Sassy’s Adopted

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

I have exciting news!! My sidekick Sassy found her FUR-ever family!

Here’s what her new family shared: Sassy fits right in with the family and really loves her big brother Benny! She has become accustomed to sleeping on the bed and the couch and loves to sport her Winnie the Pooh pajamas. They also shared that her personality fits her name.

Nail Trimming

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

Can someone please call the bulldog authorities on The Lady and Mr. Dave! Look what they did to me so they could cut my nails! They also drugged me up on Trazadone, so I’m feeling pretty mellow.

To be fair, I hate getting my nails trimmed, and the vet will only do them if I’m fully sedated, otherwise, I get mad and try to bite at them. My family doesn’t like to sedate me unless it’s absolutely necessary, so they decided to give the nail-trimming hammock a try. They laughed so hard at me, which I also think requires a report to the bulldog authorities!

I put on a show howling and grumbling, but in the end, I got my nails trimmed and no one was hurt in the process. I was treated to a large Barkachino, some snow peas off the plant, and lots of snuggles! Still, I think someone needs to call Auntie Lou and the bulldog authorities!

Side Kick Sassy – Richmond Beach

Hi Everybody, it’s me, Barkley! And my sidekick Sassy!

What a fun weekend we’ve had! This weekend I took my sidekick / foster Sassy to some of my favorite places. We even went in the same car!

Friday, we went to Richmond Beach Park. We walked on the sand, and Sassy went into the Puget Sound, she’s more of a water dog than I am! I think it’s because her legs are longer, so she doesn’t get her belly wet as quickly as I do! I don’t like a cold wet belly. We walked for miles on the sand, the only way it could have been more perfect was for Sassy and me to have Pupachino (or as I call them Barkachinos!!!) on the way home. The Lady said no!, we had a lot of treats and didn’t need a Pupachino. Can someone ask Auntie Lou to call Lady and put her right?

Saturday was a big day, and seeing as Sassy really likes car rides, I let her ride up front with Mr. Dave again. I fell asleep in the back with Lady. Sassy kept an eye on Mr. to make sure he was going the right way, and to make sure there wasn’t any shady stuff happening, like toys or treats disappearing.

We went to a couple of different beaches because the Lady wanted to see whales, of course, we never saw any, we never do. My sidekick and I spent all day together, walking on the beach, in the car, and then in the backyard. Lady said I did really well, and she is very proud of how I am around Sassy. Maybe I’m not as dog unfriendly as I’ve let on. Sassy was also good too, she’s an awesome dog, almost as awesome as Barkley!

We did so well that we both got Barkachino’s as rewards for being awesome (but still let Lady know we should have more), and then we got to spend time in the sun as Lady and Mr. spent the afternoon cleaning all the Barkley fur out of the car. Sassy and I supervised, and we both think they did a good job and deserve Barkachino’s of their own.

Today, we took Sassy for another ride down to the Everett waterfront. It’s one of my favorite parks to walk in, so I thought we should share it with her.

Overall, Sassy and I had a great weekend together. We got to go on a lot of car rides, walk at some of my favorite spots, eat treats (never enough), and ONE Barkachino, JUST ONE!!

I’m really happy Sassy’s our first foster since they adopted me. She’s helping me learn it’s okay to be around other doggies, and I think I’m going to make a great foster brother to all the doggies we are going to help find their forever homes!

Sniffari – Richmond Beach State Park

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

It finally stopped raining, so we decided to go to the beach for a Sniffari! I like sand between my toes, especially wet squishy sand!!

Now, if it could just warm up enough for The Lady to sit at the beach. Maybe she’d stop complaining about it not being summer in the PNW!

Barkley’s 8th Birthday

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

Today was my 8th birthday, and Mr. Dave spoiled me (as he should’ve). The Lady was out of town, so I expect another day of spoiling when she returns.

Today, I woke up to belly rubs, followed by bananas with my breakfast. For dinner, Mr. Dave made me a special Barkachino (homemade Pupachino’s) AND a burger!! I’ve never had a burger, but it was awesome!! We also played with Blue and went for a short hike. I had the best birthday!!

I wonder what The Lady’s going to do to top that?!?

Fluff Trough

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

I thought I’d share a picture of how pathetic I’m being today! I’ve decided to rest my head in my bowl and see if I could get my Humans to feel guilty and feed me some treats. So far, all they’re doing is laughing at me .

What do you think of my new bowl? The Lady ordered me a Fluff Trough and had my name put on it. Mr. Dave says I’m not spoiled…

1 Year Foster Anniversary

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!!

A year ago today, I came to stay with The Lady and Mr. Dave!! I was only supposed to be with them for about 6 months, while they helped get me ready to be adopted, but I wormed my way into their hearts, and I became their little boy! To celebrate our special day, I convinced them to take me to my favorite place, the mermaid store!!! As you can tell, I LOVE pupachino’s, and I make quite a mess eating one

St. Edwards State Park

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

Oh my gosh! What a day I’ve had! Today, I took The Lady and Mr. Dave to St. Edwards State Park, and we went hiking! My little short bulldog legs did amazing on the trails. We went down to the water and hiked back up. Mr. took us on “the scenic route,” I think he got lost!  I really like hiking and I want to go to state parks every weekend!!

Sniffari – Cama Beach State Park

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

Happy Valentine’s weekend! Today, The Lady and Mr. Dave took me to my “happy visit” at the vet, and then we went to Cama Beach State Park to see if we could find the grey whales!

A “happy visit” is when you go to the vet just to say hi. They sit on the floor with you and give you lots of treats! It’s their way of making me less scared about going to the vet. I love treats, so needless to say, I left happy!

The state park was fun! I walked about 3 miles downhill and back up, just so The Lady could look for whales. We didn’t see any whales, but I got to walk on the beach! Me and The Lady love the beach… it’s not like the beaches in FL though, it’s cold!!

After our adventures, I was really tired and slept most of the way home.

Tonight, The Lady let me try cauliflower at dinnertime…. I really like Cauliflower!!

Bananas

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

WE HAD A DISASTER THIS MORNING!!! We were out of BANANAS!!! I LOVE my morning Banana!!! I sent Mr. Dave and The Lady to the store to get me some, and while they were gone, I made this sign. Please don’t let them eat my bananas!!!

If this happens again, can someone please notify the bulldog rescue and have them send bananas!

Added note from The Lady and Mr. Dave. Barkley receives a bite of our bananas every day, but apparently, that’s not enough.

Sniffari – Everett Waterfront

It was finally “warm enough” for The Lady and Mr. Dave to take me for a long walk! I really needed some exercise as I’ve been a bit of a butthead the last few days because I wouldn’t go out and walk in the snow. The marina was perfect, and it’s one of my favorite places to go on a sniffari!! I got treats and sniffed everywhere looking for messages from my doggy friends. I can’t wait to go again!!

Road Trip – Long Beach, WA

The Lady and Mr. Dave took me to Long Beach, WA for Christmas 2021.

Long Beach is the world’s longest beach, so I wasn’t able to walk the whole length, but I walked pretty far.

While we were in Long Beach, we went to Cape Disappointment State Park. I got to go for a little hike to see two different lighthouses. Mr. said that Japan is all the way on the other side of the ocean!

Cross Country Road Trip

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!!

Yesterday, The Lady and I arrived back in Seattle after our 3-month adventure across the country. I rode 10,280 miles, crossed the continental divide twice, crossed the mighty Mississippi four times, and went to 13 states! I got to meet some of The Lady’s family and friends too!

The trip started off a bit rocky as I was not much of a car dog, but after a few days and a little bit of CBD, I’m officially The Lady’s travel buddy.

First stop, Kansas! We went to KS to see the Lady’s family; she hasn’t seen her family since COVID started. While we were in KS The Lady had the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and we got to spend time with our family. It was a great time!

The next stop was Chicago visiting with Kristi, Phil, and their dog Archie. I’m not dog friendly, so they kept us separated, but I did my best to be a good boy. While we were there, I got to see a few more of The Lady’s friends and her cousin Charlie and Joan.

The next stop was back to KS for Stephanie and Alex’s wedding. Then we were off to FL for 6 weeks.  Then, in mid-December, we headed back to WA and Mr. Dave!!!

On our adventure, I also got to meet a few other doggies, saw some manatees and pelicans, learned about hotel life, and discovered fenced-in backyards.

It was great to get home to see my Mr. Dave!! I can’t tell you how much I missed him and how excited I was to see him!! Today, we got back in the car and the three of us are going on our Christmas vacation!

Not All Dogs Are Dog Friendly

Hi Everybody! It’s me, Barkley!

I thought I’d share this PSA since there are a lot of dog owners who need to see this. Please remember that not all dogs are pet friendly, and we’re doing our best to keep to ourselves during our walks. When your dog runs up on me, or you purposely let them get close because yours is friendly, it causes me stress and anxiety.

My pawrents only walk me where dogs are required to be leashed. When we encounter another dog, they shorten my leash so that I am right next to their legs, this is a signal to you that I need my space. Please don’t let your dog approach me.  If you’re walking your dog in an area that requires them to be on a leash, please keep them on a leash. If you want to let your dog run free, take them to a dog park or an off-leash area where they can run. Thank you for understanding!
