Warning! Products Containing Xylitol Can Be Deadly To Your Dog

Who hasn’t been eating something and gotten that look from your dog asking for a bite? Before you let them have a taste, make sure you’re not giving them foods containing xylitol. Xylitol, even in small amounts, can be deadly to dogs!! Anything that’s made with artificial sweeteners can have xylitol in it. Look at the label for names such as birch sugar, birch extract, and wood sugar. It can be found in peanut and nut butters, ice cream, yogurt, gummy vitamins and supplements, toothpaste, gum, candies, and mints.

If you think your dog has ingested Xylitol, seek immediate medical attention. Xylitol can be highly toxic to dogs, causing low blood sugar and liver failure. Symptoms can include vomiting, weakness, staggering, collapse, and seizures.
